High Demand for Skilled Workers in US since 2008

As reported in the online edition of The Wall Street Journal, (Read the article here) the US employers in a short span of time are set to reach the annual limit for applications for the highly coveted skilled worker visas. This is a clear sign of the rebounding US economy. This also augurs well for the overall job market in the US as this will have a domino effect on the other related sectors which will further help in job creation in those sectors also, hopefully. As per WSJ, this is the first time since the 2008 crisis, that the limit has been reached by the US companies in less than a week.

USCIS, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, the nodal agencywhich runs the program announced that based on feedback, it may receive more petitions than can be accepted as per the H-1B cap between April 1, 2013 and April 5, 2013. If more petitions are recevied than can be accepted, a lottery will be conducted and those applications not selected will be returned.

On April 1st of every year the U.S. government makes available 65,000 regular cap H1b visas and 20,000 master's cap H1b visas for the upcoming government "fiscal year". The government fiscal year begins on October 1st of every year. For example, when the H-1B visa window opened on April 1, 2010, the government made available H-1b visas for the 2011 fiscal year, which begins on October 1, 2010. The H-1B visa "cap" is merely the annual numerical limitation set by Congress on the number of workers authorized to be obtain an H-1B visa. The cap is 65,000 in the regular cap category and 20,000 in the master's cap category.

This is further a good sign and is a proof of good demand for work for the Indian IT serivces majors. So, its time again for the Talent War to start all over again.
